About Us: Nestled within the picturesque countryside of The Ribble Valley, Holden Clough Nurseries is a vibrant, natural space full of plants and wonder. We offer a variety of all things plants, an on-site café, alongside artisan markets, workshops, expert-led talks, and other events.

We proudly grow many of our own plants, right here on site, without polytunnels. This gives us hardy plants that we know can withstand our northern climate. It’s said that ‘if it grows here, it’ll grow anywhere’.

Position Overview: We are on the lookout for a full-time Production Supervisor to assist our Production Manager in all aspects of growing our homegrown perennials. This includes manual and mechanical potting of plant materials from various sources. You’ll oversee a small team of nursery assistants in the maintenance of the Nursery site, growing fields, and all aspects of plant care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plant production – mechanical and manual.

  • Moving and lifting plants, from / around The Growing Field, in / around The Frameyard, for customer orders, garden design. display changes and more.

  • Caring for and maintaining plants in all areas, and ensuring all plants look their best.

  • Serving customers, answering queries, and offering advice - if needed.

  • Oversee the irrigation system and schedule.

  • Operate all elements of the potting machine.

  • Operate Forklift on-site (Training can be provided)

  • Drive company vehicles, including Lutons if needed.

  • Weed, pest, and disease control.

  • Site maintenance - keeping all production areas and the Nursery site clean, tidy, weed-free, and presentable.

  • Create on-site beds, borders, and displays.

  • Writing plant descriptions and printing plant labels.

  • Comfortable working in a garden setting and ready to assist in other teams if and when needed. 

Essential qualities:

  • Extensive knowledge of gardening, plants, and horticulture.

  • Good knowledge or keen interest in various propagation methods.

  • Happy to work in and outdoors, in all weather.

  • Physically fit and resilient.

Desirable qualities:

  • Knowledge of potting machinery, irrigation systems, and pumps.

  • Forklift/Telehandler experience - Training will be provided.

  • Pesticides Licence PA1 & PA6 - Training may be arranged for the right candidate.

  • Comfortable working off-site in customers’ gardens, from time to time.

  • Happy to assist on garden show builds and show days.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and versatile.

  • Can do / positive attitude.

  • Ability to work well in a team and/or independently.

  • Friendly, approachable, and excellent communication and customer service skills. (when customer-facing)

  • Close attention to detail and a methodical approach.
