One Day Beginner Upholstery Workshop
Many think that older furniture was built better, stronger, and sturdier than they are today, but over time, cushions and covers can rip, fade, or the designs cxan simply become outdated.
Join Lynne in this beginner’s upholstery class where you can learn how to recover, upholster and give new life to an old piece of furniture. Perhaps you own it already, and it needs some TLC, maybe it’s a family heirloom you can’t let go of, or perhaps you just want to learn how to upholster, so have found something you love off marketplace!
Whatever your reason, come and enjoy a day of fun and creativity whilst learning a brand new skill. Come solo, come with friends, all are welcome – no experience necessary.
What will I learn?
Material & fabric selection, tools, batting, foam and staple gun basics.
How to remove old fabric safely.
Assessment of the interior of the item — when to replace foam vs. reuse.
Cutting fabric — measuring, and pattern matching basics.
Stapling techniques — pulling, corners, tension.
Finishing — tucking, trimming, adding a dust cover, if time allows

What to bring
As this is a one-day course only, it’s important that you bring something that you feel is achievable. I’ve listed some examples below that you may have at home that you’d like to tackle.
Dining chair seat (drop-in pad) - This is great for beginners and during the day. You might even be able to do more than one!
Small footstool or an ottoman
A bench cushion
Headboard panel that needs recovering
Your choice of fabric – please email me if you are unsure if your fabric is correct for your project.
Trim of your choice, whether it’s piping, studs or braid.
About the Host
Lynne is an experienced upholsterer and workshop leader who has run her own soft furnishings and upholstery business for over 10 years. She’s given new life to everything from armchairs, sofas, chaise longues, footstools, ottomans, chair pads, and even some campervan seating!
She loves to work in small groups of 4 or 5, so that everyone gets the benefit of some individual tuition for their chosen project.

£99 for the day, which includes all tuition and the use of tools / sewing machine etc
There will be time for a 1 hour lunch break and food / drinks are available from The Reading Room Kitchen on site. You are also more than welcome to bring your own packed lunch along too.

Please note that this workshop is non-refundable. If you cannot attend and contact us with at least 7 days’ notice, credit for another of Lynne's workshops may be discussed.
