Spring Flower Lino Block Printing

Sunday 22nd March, 1.00pm - 4.00pm

£50

Create your own spring flower inspired designs as printing blocks that can be used to create cards, gift wrapping, fabrics and more.

Taking our native spring blooms as inspiration you will carve your own designs on block mounted lino with expert guidance from artist Lisa Howard. You will then hand print your designs on handmade paper to create your own unique printed items.

Lino blocks are more robust than lino sheets and can be printed over and over again so you can create repeating patterns in endless combinations. Less confident drawers will learn transfer techniques to support the creation of successful designs.

At the workshop you will create two lino blocks that you can use in combination or as separate designs to print greeting cards but you can carry on printing at home with your blocks to create as many hand printed items as you like from fabric to gift wrap.

All materials will be provided. No previous experience is necessary.

About the host…

Lisa Howard originally studied sculpture and photography, followed by a master’s degree in art history at University College London.

Lisa has had a 20 year career in the cultural and creative industries supporting the professional development of many talented people and spearheading programmes, such as the Big Draw aimed at broadening access to the arts and unlocking creativity. Lisa’s artistic practice is diverse but rooted in the idea of capturing natural forms through natural processes.

This includes sun printing methods such as cyanotype and lumen prints, monoprinting directly from the subject and tracing cast shadows in ink. Elements of these techniques are beyond the artist’s control and are therefore both creatively challenging and freeing, ensuring each artwork is unique and captures the process of making in the final form.

Lisa founded Indigo Studio in order to dedicate more time to developing her own artistic work but also as a means of sharing her extensive knowledge of creative techniques through a varied range of botanically inspired seasonal workshops that are accessible to all skill levels
