Cyanotype Printmaking

Sunday 28th June, 1.00pm - 4.00pm

£50

Create magical blue sun prints

Join botanical artist, Lisa Howard, to learn this early photographic printing technique. Cyanotype sun printing is fun and easy to learn and in this workshop Lisa will cover the basic techniques and processes leaving you with all the skills you need to develop your own practice. You will also create and take home five prints, including one signature surprise colour-pop print.

Lisa hand-makes a range of light-sensitive papers for you to use in the session. She also provides a wide range of plants, pressed flowers and feathers for you to print from but participants are encouraged to bring their own items too as this can make the prints more personal.

No previous experience is necessary as Lisa will walk you through each stage of the process to help you create beautiful blue prints.

All materials are provided, and no previous experience is necessary.

About the host…

Lisa Howard originally studied sculpture and photography, followed by a master’s degree in art history at University College London.

Lisa has had a 20 year career in the cultural and creative industries supporting the professional development of many talented people and spearheading programmes, such as the Big Draw aimed at broadening access to the arts and unlocking creativity. Lisa’s artistic practice is diverse but rooted in the idea of capturing natural forms through natural processes.

This includes sun printing methods such as cyanotype and lumen prints, monoprinting directly from the subject and tracing cast shadows in ink. Elements of these techniques are beyond the artist’s control and are therefore both creatively challenging and freeing, ensuring each artwork is unique and captures the process of making in the final form.

Lisa founded Indigo Studio in order to dedicate more time to developing her own artistic work but also as a means of sharing her extensive knowledge of creative techniques through a varied range of botanically inspired seasonal workshops that are accessible to all skill levels
